Feel good roundtable rewatch of Encino Man submitted by Nicky Lates for our feel good movie month here at Binge-Watchers Podcast.

What is tonight's movie about? California teen Dave Morgan (Sean Astin) is digging a pit for a pool in his backyard when he happens upon a caveman frozen in a block of ice. Aided by his goofy friend Stoney (Pauly Shore), Dave transports their discovery to his garage, where the Neanderthal thaws and is revived. When Dave and Stoney find the living and thoroughly bewildered caveman, they attempt to pass him off as a foreign exchange student named Link (Brendan Fraser), resulting in many misadventures.

Love this cast! Sean Astin! Pauly Shore! Brendan Fraser! Megan Ward! Robin Tunney! Richard Masur! Michael DeLouise! Rose McGowan! Rick Ducommun! Erick Avari! Gerry Bednob!

Speaker 1:

Wine. Oh, pour something cold on iceberg. It's the binge-watching[inaudible]

Speaker 2:

Boom. We're here. It's binge Watchers podcast. What we're doing tonight, somebody should turn down their mic on me and feed coming through feedback and somebody else's window there. Anyway, what do want to feel good round table rewatch of Encino, man, which is submitted by Nikki lates for our feel-good movie month here at binge-watch podcast. But first the juice, the juice. We're going to go over to our, uh, we're going to go over to our freaking, uh, home movie, home video headlines. I was trying to get her on live too, but I don't know what this thing is doing. I can't tell if it's doing anything. Um, all right. So what have you heard in the world of TV and movies with our home video headlines? I got two juicy ones. I'll start. I'm super excited. So I'm just going to go. All right. So Keanu Reeves confirmed that they are doing Constantine to what's Constantine. Well, it's based on a Hellblazer comic it's John Constantine. It came out in early two thousands with Keanu Reeves. He basically played a, a, I don't know, a a he's like a streetwise excersice that does a little bit of magic, some detective work and, um, getting a part two was really cool. I also heard, uh, Peter stormier who is going to come back and the Swedish actor, he's going to come back as, as the devil. So that should be really, uh, really, uh, exciting stuff. And let's see, um, also confirmed Sylvester. Stallone is going to be in the suicide squad. The one that James Gunn is making, but currently his role is hush, hush. Um, but that, but I'm, I'm pretty jazzed. I will constantly, and I would love to see, uh, I would love to see semesters alone in the suicide squad. Uh, it would be funny if he was playing King shark. Cause that's a character. I think there's a definitely put on that movie, you know? Um, it's scary and you could bite your head off if he had to, but you know, he's on the good guy side, so that's something or antiheroes whatever you want to call the suicide squad. Um, I guess you could call them heroes. I mean, they were pretty heroic in the last movie. Yeah. What do you think Adam? You're pondering something like every time you're about to drop a critical piece of information. It's like, I can't hear anything. So reactions are just me reacting to the technology. Like I'm him talking right now? Like on my end. I

Speaker 3:

Don't know. I'm sure it's fine on your end.

Speaker 2:

It's everybody sounds good to me. I don't know. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. Okay, good. Sorry.

Speaker 2:

Looking for that regulator on my microphone just to make sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Um, so let's see tonight's movie. Oh no, wait, does anybody else have any headlines?

Speaker 3:

They got one. They got like nail and stranger things or team like they're teaming up and they're making a new Netflix movie together. What?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, like the cast from each one, but it a separate thing.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. It's called a subverted Hitchcockian, dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonist of all teenage girls. It's dubbed like the new mean girls. It's what it's being heard to as interesting fans would be interested. Just the mashup of casts. It has to be like a super fun idea.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. Maybe. I don't know if you like stranger things. Yeah, but I've never seen Riverdale. So I don't know. I forget it. You know, CW at its worst. Um, moving on, uh, this generations

Speaker 3:

Of brat pack,

Speaker 2:

Come out. Tell me how you think that Riverdale is. This generation's freaking rat pack.

Speaker 3:

Well, them and like the stranger things, kids, you know, cause you've seen them pop up in a bunch of stuff lately. Like that kid was in spree and then he's in a bunch of other things. Uh, the immunes had kids from stranger things in it, so yeah, I think so through whatever you guys know about that.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I know what homes. Yeah. Yeah. What's her name? What's her. What's her name? Millie something. Anyway she, yeah, she was this little sister at a movie on Netflix and um, Superman, Henry capital or whatever. Played, played a show that out yet or it's coming. Yeah. That came out like last month

Speaker 3:

Talk like last month I would thought I was the only person that didn't watch it. Cause I just didn't catch it.

Speaker 2:

Um, what is your headline, Dave

Speaker 3:

It's um, yeah. Anyway, so Disney is, uh, you know, doing a couple of reboots and remakes. Um, one, they are doing a, uh, in the works right now is a dark wing duck reboot with Seth Rogan I'm down. So really cool. Yeah. Um, and this one really struck me as surprising. Um, they're doing a live action, Lilo and stitch remake. So John M Chu who I think did some fast and furious movies or was it Chris? I don't know. He's a director has done some popular movies lately. Think he did crazy rotations. I can't remember. But anyways. Yeah. So live action, Lilo and stitch. I am kind of interested to see how that'll turn out. I like duck. We really love that courtyard. Yeah.

Speaker 4:

That'd be a good, good update. I'm down for that. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Going duck, like going to be a surprise. It took them this long with all the MTU and everything. Right. I think he, I think he can work right now. Is that going to be a comedy series? I mean like for the TV show or movie cartoon. Oh, it's going to be a cartoon. It's got to be a TV show, I think on Disney plus. Yeah. Yeah. Um, I got one. What do you got Nick?

Speaker 4:

All right. So the original home alone director thinks the Disney plus reboot is going to be a waste of time.

Speaker 2:

I don't know about you.

Speaker 4:

I actually kind of agree with him. I don't see home alone capturing the magic it had at that time. You guys, I mean, they've done a bunch of home video ones and they were terrible,

Speaker 2:

But have you heard of stoned alone?

Speaker 4:

I have. I have. I think that could work actually. Yes. But would that go to Disney plus? Cause it's a stoner comedy. I don't think so. Adam's biting his lip.

Speaker 3:

I'm going to be good. Other guys says, Hey, I'm trying this thing. We'll see. You know, it's so funny is I saw that headline too. And you know, it feels like a right message. Wrong messenger because like Chris Columbus, his career been on the decline for a while. Like he did that Pixelz movie with Adam Sandler and like other, you know, rent. So like, I don't know, like you say, it's a, it's a crime against cinema is like really? Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Pickles entertaining and all Dave. No, I never, I never gave it up.

Speaker 3:

The only thing that made me laugh was a joke that was in the trailer of like, I am your father and then Pac-Man so eats the guy that's about it. That's it.

Speaker 2:

Okay. Fair enough. Um, moving on, let's start feeling good. Tonight's movie is Encino, man. What is the movie about California team gave Morgan played like Sean Austin. He's digging a pit for a pool in his backyard when he happens upon a caveman frozen in a block of ice aided by his goofy friends, Stony played by and portrayed by none other than the weasel himself, Pauly shore, Dave transports the discovery to the garage. They thought them out, he gets revived, gave him Stoney, find a way to, uh, mix them into their herd of teenagers at the high school. And he kind of, they pass them off as like a foreign exchange student and they call him link as in the missing link. And then that guy is Brendan Frazier and they go on, they have all these little tiny adventures as they work towards graduation and the prom. But uh, I gotta say like love the cast was running the list. Sean Austin, Pauly shore running Frazier, Megan Ward, Robin tooney, Richard Moser, Michael[inaudible] or which is Darndale Louise's of his kids. One of his three kids who went on to acting Rose McGowan, a comedian, Rick Ducommun, who you might remember he's in little monsters is the big bully guy that becomes their friend, the bully monster. Um, he possibly other things too. He's a comedian comedic actor, right? Um, stand up comedian, you got Eric Avery, uh, and Jerry bed. Now they're playing the guys in the mini Mart. They're playing stereotypes, but it's I dunno, man. They did a great job. I want to acknowledge that they're in the movie. They're both good actors. Um, Jerry, you would remember from like 40 year old Virgin and Eric Avery has been in a ton of movies. Uh, another Adam Sandler comes to mind though. Mr. Deeds, you know the Mr. Deeds remake, he was in that is like the financial advisor. Um, alright, so that's Encino, man. It's next pick, let's jump into first impressions. Let's start with Nicky lights. Um, my first impression is lightning in a bottle. I love it. This is one of my go-to shoes for a good time moving. And that's why I chose it. Well, that's pretty quick. Was a good expression. No, no. Usually you like it usually is like a movie teaser. Usually you're just like, boom. All right. AA. First impression of Encino, man. Frazier's most revealing role. Wow. Cause he's wearing a loincloth dangerous Dave first impression of Encino, man. The first impression of this I'd have to put myself into my nine-year-old body because I saw this in the theater. Oh my God. This is the most awesome movie ever. I love it. Probably shorter school. That was nine year old. David, did that trigger puberty for you? Yeah. Well, you know, we all learned move on. Okay. I will move on. Okay. That was a cheap joke. Okay. For my first infection for all those 90 kids, this is it. That's my bold sentence.[inaudible] quicker than mine. So we'll be back with more podcasting about Encino man, right after these messages, we're going to go to, uh, some sponsor and affiliate stuff. Uh, Nikki later, what is your favorite bit from this movie?

Speaker 4:

You've already mentioned earlier. It is the liquor store scene where the guys want to wheeze the juice and he's teaching. He's teaching all about teaching, like all about like the five basic food groups and they're all these candy bars and things. It's like genius. Like Nope, dads are the no group. And then we use the juice and then they go into the magic round. And after that, it's great.

Speaker 2:

Hey, microwave, a burrito though.

Speaker 4:

You remember it's cold in the middle and he's like, uh, two minutes or something. I'm doing a bad impersonation, but yeah. Yeah. It's such a classic scene. That whole five minutes scene is just perfect.

Speaker 2:

Uh, majors, Dave, what's your favorite bit?

Speaker 3:

A couple actually. I forgot how quotable this movie is, but like, um, actually I really love the villain in this movie, the tough guy. Um, but there's a scene where he's pinning up. Sean asked and he's like, uh, she would have on your lips if your mouth with your gums were on fire. Yeah. Yeah, she would. And then the other part that like, it's a serious moment, but the line is so ridiculous or great, but he's like Stoney. Oh, you care about is grinding, grinding and tasty nugs. Like, like that's his big moment to say he's self centered, but it's just like he was eating get high.

Speaker 2:

That's a dramatic moment for poli short because he goes, well, I care now. I care now it's a big moment, you know? Wow. You know, like, would you take a minute to talk about Pauly shore? Who's like a, it's like a podcast or now yeah, he's doing

Speaker 4:

Random rant. You know what? You almost got that job.

Speaker 2:

No, I applied

Speaker 4:

There's something and I almost got that job. And then I just went for another job with Sean instead, but I almost worked for Polish

Speaker 2:

To be like his video guy. And like,

Speaker 4:

I didn't realize what it would become, but I would have probably been on the show in that little room that he did it would've been weird. It's like the other guys.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. Yeah. He does like a live show from his living room. But the whole thing is like, he had a very, like, not feel good interview on, uh, Joe Rogan's podcast. And she was like kind of depressed. And they were talking about like his former movie career, you know? And then he was talking about being included when an animal Sandler movies, that Sanli Wexler thing on Netflix, how he was visiting the set, but he wasn't the star. And then he was talking about how, like he had one bad movie after the other. And like, it was just like Pauly shore. Like just kind of went off the cliff, you know? Um, it was,

Speaker 4:

It was a sad interview. I know, I felt bad

Speaker 2:

That the Joe Rogan thing was sad, but, um, I don't know if he can't re really relive his glory days, but he could still act, people could still put them in. I mean, I like to make a movie with Paulie. I would find things for him to do. Like he just did a, uh, independent movie and the guest house and it's kind of like, they're trying to get the weasel to come out of retirement. And that movie playing like this wild guy that is stuck in some kind of lease and these people's guest house and they got a new homeowners want to kick them out or whatever. But, um, my favorite Pauly shore is usually son-in-law, but, but it hit the way Encino man is like a good go-to. You know what I mean? Like if there wasn't, son-in-law just watching him in, in seeing a man. Uh, and they have the there's two parts where they show the Terminator in this movie. Yeah. Yeah. So link is learning, I guess these are some of my favorite bits. Like Lincoln's learning how to talk, like, you know, modern kids from Encino or whatever, by flipping through channels, like through MTV and stuff on the TV. And then he sees, uh, the bit from the trajectory to like back. Right. And then, uh, and then at the end of the movie, like the weasel comes in and he's like, Oh, I'll be back. But notice the dance that he watched and that beginning scene two is the end dance. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Where are we at AA? You're talking about, yeah. Yeah. We're talking about Pauly shore on shore discussing. Or do you want to tell us about your favorite bits?

Speaker 3:

Well, what did it talk about our favorite bit, but we're talking about Pauly shore. Just a couple words I want to know. And maybe one of you guys knows about this. Um, how did he make this role? It that's not it that couldn't be in the script. Right? Where are they putting the hyphens buddy and all that? That's just stuff. Polisher.

Speaker 2:

He was going to MTV a few years before this movie. Totally poly. So that's kind of how he brought his character too. Like signature character signature. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. It felt, it felt so. I mean, I've watched this in a movie theater. I was little and, and he was such a strange character. I didn't know. As a kid, I had no idea what he was talking about. Uh, only as an adult. I understand, man. He really brought a lot. He filled out this world, the interactions between the characters feel so natural. I mean, there's nothing stiff about this movie. It's just immersive everyone in the movie believes they're in there. It's real. So just in each scene. So the movie plays very well. And I don't know, I see a lot of other movies that could not pull any of this off. So polisher is definitely a special talent, but uh, on that, um, Nikki lates, uh, scene selection, uh, one of my biggest laughs in the movie is when he starts him about the food groups and it just cuts to the guys like behind the counter. Yeah. Their reaction shot. It gets, I knew he had gotten me before. Like I know. And then it just builds from there. They cut back to their reaction to sanity because they're us, right? We're like, what the hell is this guy doing? It is such a good scene. But my favorite scene in the movie is, uh, when, after he's been planned, because it caused me anxiety as an adult. I'm sorry to say, but when he gets in the car, you're going, Oh, this is like a fun scene or whatever. And then the car is driving sideways on the two wheels that was stressing me out, but I enjoyed it, but it was like, why is this stressing me out? I'm this isn't real, very suspenseful scene for you. I've seen it in a runner up.

Speaker 2:

I might have a, I piggyback on Dave's favorite bit. And then a little bit mine is going to come off a little bit of Adams too, because like I wrote, I had written down on my notes here, the friendship between three dudes trying to survive to the end of high school. It's kind of like my favorite bit of the whole movie, like watching Brendan Frazier is link watching, you know, Paulie is Stony and watching, uh, Sean Aston is Dave like all hanging out and like just trying to get through the last, like last bit of high school. Right. I thought it was like, uh, I think he, I mean, I would say pretty genuine, you know, to, to kind of echo or repeat what Adam said, but um, yeah, like I agree with it. Um, it was funny. He's like the Dave character is like panning for this girl. What? Like their whole grade school or junior high experience

Speaker 3:

Always liked her. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Not to put everybody on the spot, but did you guys have like a thing, like a, uh, a person perished over years or whatever? Um,

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

So Dave, who was, was yours. What's your little story?

Speaker 3:

I don't want to say her name on it.[inaudible] and look what Nick said. Yeah. Uh I'll I'll change my name up in middle school that I had art crush on, uh, Kathy we'll call her, uh, and she was actually a teacher's daughter, uh, that like, and I was like one of her best students. So I was like, I was always hoping out like something would work out there and it never did, but like, but you know, I knew her all through high school. Like we took drama and all this stuff together, so, but like, Oh, I pined for her for, you know, my middle school years and some high school

Speaker 2:

AA. You got a good story. Like this

Speaker 3:

Are we, this is where we're going on. The podcast. Charlie Brown had the little red haired girl. Um, I had

Speaker 4:

Several, uh, my parents were in the Navy, so I moved around a lot. And uh, the first one[inaudible]

Speaker 2:

Well, for like personal little stories within your like, well, I got several, hold on, hold on, hold on. There's an Ellen. There's Veronica. There's

Speaker 4:

Susie. You guys want to hear, there's a girl named Raina that I liked a lot. That the real name. Are you going to actually give out the real name for that? Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I remember like I met a girl in second grade and I'm like, I pined for this girl until like my freshman year of high school. Right. And, uh, I remember like, Dave is so awkward in this movie, Dave Morgan, not Dave on our show, but Dave the character and like, he reveals his feelings a little too early and like, I kind of did something like that. Like I was like, Oh, I love you. And then like, there was just silence, like a vacuum of silence. I was like, Holy. I better say something because she's given me like this like wide eyed stare, like this Holy. Like I need to say something. So it was pretty overwhelming whole, like what I just said. Yes. And then I ran into a friend and he's like, yeah, you used to have all these girlfriends in high school and dah, dah, dah. And I'm like, Oh, I must've like overcompensated by just like hanging out with a bunch of girls to make up for the fact that like, you didn't get the. It did that. But, uh, that brings us to you, Nikki lights. Let's talk about your love affairs.

Speaker 4:

I had a girl that really liked me actually first. And then I kind of was seeing her and then I moved away. And then it was in between that age, between seventh grade and eighth grade where the girl that I was actually probably better than at the time, like in terms of looks then got way better than me and got, you know, beautiful, you know, how that goes. And then, you know, I moved away and then started contact Turner. And of course, like, she's way better than me. And then she gave me a second chance, but of course, you know, it fizzled out and things didn't work out, but she was always my crush, you know? And it's one of those things where like, God it. Like, you guys know what I'm saying? Like the girl, like sometimes like she wasn't that pretty kind of in middle school, but then becomes the hottest girl in high school. That's kind of what it was. Yeah. It was just like, Holy crap. What just happened? Yeah. So yeah, that was my, my obsession and her name was, yeah, there you go. Internet glitch. I'm sorry. What were you saying?

Speaker 2:

An audience segment on the show and it's called from out there. We take some, uh, any input from the audience could be anything they say or, or compliments, or they want us to talk about movies or whatever. But actually I was on Facebook earlier and my sister crystal shared an article about the new short circuit. And she's like, are they going to screw it up? Uh, well, frankly I think they are, but I mean, I think it's going to be, because they're going to water down the whole movie because of cancel and PC culture, they're going to like, there'll be lukewarm, be watered down. If I think about the origin of 25, I love that guy, but he's like journey of self discovery, self realization. He's like a potty mouth called the robot. And then maybe by the end of the movie, he's like a teenager. Maybe he's not like, I don't think he's a, full-blown like adult robot. Like, I don't think he's learned enough, but, um, he'll probably be like a Disney Pixar type type story. Anybody, a short-circuit fans, Dave? Uh,

Speaker 3:

I mean, yeah, like short circuit. Um,

Speaker 2:

I don't know. I

Speaker 3:

They'll probably screw it up, but I mean, you know, whatever the originals are still there. It's not a movie that I'm like, I I'm in such love with that. I'm going to be upset if they make a bad version, you know, because I can ignore it.

Speaker 2:

It'd be cool if they cast Fisher Stevens again, but he gets to play like a regular Irish Catholic this time, because that was the upper world.

Speaker 4:

Yeah. Oh my gosh. He was like Indian or something, right? Yeah. Yeah. Well, I literally thought he was, yeah, he did amazing. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I read a little kid. I was like, are we going to see that Indian guy in another movie? Any anytime soon?

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And then that was it. Yeah. At a nice tan, I guess. Yeah. He was in a show called key West or something where he was like, he wanted to be like those, the Florida to be a writer. And I remember that hearing about that show. He got like kidnapped. He was on an episode of all of a sudden Philadelphia and gets kidnapped as a journalist that reviews their bar as a pretty predicament.

Speaker 4:

Saw that one. Oh my gosh. I would love to watch that

Speaker 3:

The bad guys and the super Mario brothers movie. Oh no. Oh wow. Oh no.

Speaker 2:

Pick for the feel-good movie next week, guys.

Speaker 4:

Super Mario brothers. I just hope they do the robots. Cool. That's the one thing like Johnny five looked so good in the first one. I don't know what design they're going to go for. And I hope they go for real animatronics again, because I don't want them to be CG. That would be my only complaint. Don't make him CG. That was beauty right

Speaker 2:

From the start. The beauty of

Speaker 4:

Short circuit was look at how amazing this robot is. I mean, that was part of the charm.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. The Yoda light creature called the child and the Mandalorian is a$5,000 doll. That's animatronic. And he's really, they're like a puppet on set.

Speaker 4:

We need to do is add little things in digital. Not make it all day,

Speaker 2:

Right? No, they should use animatronics. I mean, Johnny five mechanical. I'm going to attack somebody like Michael Bay. Like, Hey Michael, you did the transformers. You want to come over here on this robot? Yeah. It'll be something like 25 can change himself into something else. Like a truck then transformers again. Yeah. That's the transformers movie. And then he learns input. Yeah. Oh geez.

Speaker 3:

Or to anything that they're going to turn it into an iron giant

Speaker 2:

Story where he like, he's a weapon, but he has to do good. I, uh, I can see it pretty rad because he gets like, he gets like, he becomes like a punk rocker and he puts like the Mohawk thing on, you know, part two.

Speaker 3:

What was the name of the band? The gang. Because like

Speaker 2:

Last vote[inaudible] yeah. Johnny isn't alive. I was kind of hoping for a short circuit three. I was doing direct sequel. Just like doing these days. He works at the DMV. He just stamps people's for getting driver's licenses tries to cheer them up, I guess. Yeah. He'd have to get like run over a couple of times and enjoy working at the DMV. Did it in part two,

Speaker 3:

He become a citizen. And then at the end he became

Speaker 2:

Bold. Have Tanium or something. Yeah. They bronze.

Speaker 3:

I, at the time they had the, we need a hero at the end climactic action scene. Remember that song? You're like who's Harry crumb do use it. And then they used it.

Speaker 2:

My problem with Paul cartoon. That's good. What's funny is I think we should just stop and start like dropping like fake movie stuff, but she's just not even a real like kind of like movie web or something like, Oh yeah. Brendan.[inaudible] yeah. It'll all become facts. So it'll end up on like Wikipedia and be like, well, the binge-watch podcast said that amazing. Oh man. I tunes just dropping that explicit bark. Would they eat so fast these days? How did they catch it? So last week we did a fan commentary a Friday, 13th. They yanked that so fast that shit's gone. Wow. I think like so many people got to download it. I don't know what happens now. Um, I'm hiding that thing in our Facebook group. It seems like the best place to hide it. Uh, YouTube rejected it like right away. Um, anyway, if you like Friday, 13th, there's a fan comedy Terry out there that might exist to go look for it. We were trying to bring it up, but bring it up. It was on my mind. I didn't get a chance to tell the boys before we started the show where it is. Did you watch it? Nick? I watched half of it. You guys are amazing. Uh, the movie may or may not be on there. I'm not going to confirm or deny it.

Speaker 4:

It was when I saw the part, I don't know what happened to it. Now I'm saying for liable reasons, I'm not going to hit you. Put me on the spot alive. I'm sorry. I'm like, no, uh, yeah. I, I didn't see that it was glitchy internet. Like the girl. Yeah. When he saw Adam's pretty face. Yeah. I was talking about Adam. That's awesome. He was showing his chest. It was hot. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Oh, well

Speaker 2:

What commentary you watching Adam send you a secret message. Like, Oh, there's a recut. There's a new cut. Click this message.

Speaker 4:

It was good. Um, guys were like, we're blazing through like,

Speaker 2:

I was really excited to do this episode that we're going to have like tons to say about and seen a man and a well it's so good. There's not, I mean, I mean, we could, we could've gone more. I, you know,

Speaker 3:

I could have done more favorite bids, but of course, you know, you don't want to like keep dragging out. Uh there's that explicit? Sorry.

Speaker 4:

That's what I mean. You know

Speaker 3:

The taste. Yeah. Paint the whole picture and then have other people watch. Oh, those are all the best bits of the movie. Why should I even watch it? I didn't want it. It reminds me of any, have you seen ice man, ice,

Speaker 2:

Timothy, whatever Hutton

Speaker 3:

Came out in the early eighties. It's just all one word Iceman.

Speaker 2:

Let me see. I think it's Timothy Hutton, but I was in dark half I think. Or dark. Well, yeah, that Stephen King movie.

Speaker 3:

Yeah. It's it's similar. Um, prehistoric Neanderthal, man. Yeah.

Speaker 4:

Not uncommon. I know what you're talking about. Yes. Yes. It's a drama. The drama. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

No it it's just ice man. It's from 1984 and it's such an interesting porno, Dave. I'm not sure if it's like the first time someone found someone in ice in a movie, but uh, it's very similar. They find them in. I say, cut them out. There's excavation team. It's an Antarctica. It's not an Encino.

Speaker 2:

Nikki wait is paying attention.

Speaker 4:

I'm trying. I'm trying to find it right now. I'm actually trying to find I'm fine. Caveman from 1981. I love caveman. Yeah. Okay. I'm not mistaken the movies. Okay. What he's saying? Yeah, totally. All one word ice man. 1984. Oh 19 four. Okay.

Speaker 2:

Um, so what else are you guys watching? Let's go to, uh, what else would the binge Watchers watching dangerous? Dave, what are you watching this week?

Speaker 3:

All right. Well, uh, just to keep up with the feel-good, uh, tone of this month, um, I watched a documentary on Netflix called my octopus teacher. Um,

Speaker 4:

I heard about that. It is so good.

Speaker 3:

It's real. Like I do have tissues or something near your journey. Yeah. It's amazing. Like you get attached to a dam, octopus, like you get like feelings for an octopus. I can't speak or say anything, but like, it, it feels like, you know, like a free Willy type story where like a human and an octopus, like form a bond and they tell you scientifically, you know, octopus has only live for one year. So like, you kind of know the end of the story before the story, you know, but it's, it's nonetheless heartbreaking. Um, but also uplifting, like you kind of learn, you know, it's uh, yeah. If you want to see the story of the year,

Speaker 2:

What's that they cut out the sex scenes are. They include it.

Speaker 3:

Well, you have to watch, I can't tell you everything I've seen with the octopus. So man, I'm going to watch that. I've been, I've heard good things. Yeah. Tentacles

Speaker 2:

A dam, what else are you watching this w eek?

Speaker 3:

I watched, uh, something on shutter called Satan slave. And, uh, it's a movie out of Indonesia. Um,

Speaker 2:

I think it's probably short for that one too. Did they get poly for that one too?

Speaker 3:

It did. The day he was, he was, uh, he just made an appearance as a demon in the movie. That's amazing. But uh, you know, a lot of older movies, I mean, they're just not always that good, but there's this very strange quality to watching things that are foreign and for, and from a different culture.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. You're going to say just stuff on actual film stuff that's been shot.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah. Well, that's true too, but it looks really good. I don't know if they restored it or what it must've. Somebody must have restored it. Cause it's from 1982 and it looks, uh, it really looks fantastic, but, um, it was surprising how normal everything in the movie felt considering it is so strange and foreign. I mean, I don't, I'm not recommending it saying it's a must watch or anything like that later, for sure. But, uh,

Speaker 2:

Binge now brother,

Speaker 3:

He doesn't, he doesn't get to do any buddies or anything. So it's just going like, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Where are we? Nicky lates. What'd you watch this week?

Speaker 3:

I decided to finally catch up. It's been on my queue for awhile. Eli Ross, history of horror. Have you guys watched this

Speaker 4:

Pretty freaking cool every week they go on a horror topic, right? Like there's the monsters. And then they talk about like the thing or Godzilla and then there's house for, or body horror. It's really cool. It's on the second season, I just finally been catching up and it was like, Oh wow. Like all the slasher movies they talk about and you know, he's so knowledgeable on the horror. It's actually in the it's really well-made I would highly recommend checking it out. Really cool. Uh, where are you watching that? I think it said the Sundance channel or on shutter. Yeah. I think it's on a bunch. Yeah, definitely. Eli Ross history of horror or something like that. Yeah. It's really good. Yeah. It's good. Again. I've seen

Speaker 2:

If people want to try shutter, our code might still work. I don't really know. Who knows. Um, yes. We used to partner with them too, but all the horrific stuff they had on there formerly.

Speaker 4:

Oh, it's you dude. It's you?

Speaker 2:

How do I introduce what I'm watching? Like, Hey John, what's up, John? What are you watching today, dude? Okay. Oh, thanks Nick. Um, I got my kid into last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day Lewis.

Speaker 4:

Oh my gosh. That's a great one. Yeah. I remember the score being so good too. That's a really good score. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Um, watching sculpins and learning about the different conflicts. Trying to explain that like each side that they were right. The French and their tribes, they were right. The tribes up on the English stuff. They were right. Everybody's like thinks they're right. Meanwhile, calling us are dying in between. Anyway. It's good. It's based on a novel. I think it's a Daniel. Somebody it's something novel. The guy wrote the Scarlet letter also wrote this one. I, I think podcasts. So we, um, let's see. Oh, and the greatest showman. I didn't watch the whole movie. I just go to the very end because it's like, I like the part where all it shit's falling apart and then he's got to put it back together. And obviously it's quite a fancy, I think we've explained this before. Like this is not like PT. Barnum really was like, he was a set up a. And like who is that? To his baseball. Yeah. PT. Barnum.

Speaker 4:

I've never seen the movie. Okay. Wow. Oh the movie's

Speaker 2:

Great. I love the music. Like I got Jack. The music's incredible

Speaker 4:

Whose it always started off after like 20 minutes. You turn it off. It was horrible. The music sucked. Oh God. I hated that movie. Holy. Oh wow. If they were in the same room right now, I'm glad he didn't choose this as this feel-good movie. Cause that would've made me forced to watch it all the way through.

Speaker 2:

Well, I guess we know what we're doing for December then.

Speaker 4:

Feel good? No musical Christmas. There's a lot. Yeah.

Speaker 2:

The last one is Mondo season two Mandalorian season two. Now they're bringing in a bunch of and stuff from the cartoons. Is it starting to crop up on the season?

Speaker 3:

So, um, the

Speaker 2:

Best episode of the whole season was this week just got dropped on Friday. So he was fighting some stormtroopers and, but then characters from the cartoons popped up. So who may or may not be other Mandalorians it's not exactly a spoiler. Cause I said may or may not.

Speaker 3:

There you go. Games generally caught up on that show. Yeah, I lost it.

Speaker 2:

Dave, what are we watching next week? Oh, that's incredibly revealing.

Speaker 3:

Um, yes, the waters run deep. You know what I mean? Give it to us. Did my pick for a feel-good movie for next week is, uh, the Johnny, Tim Burton, collaboration, ed wood. Um, so, uh, let's get ready to watch him make some movies known as the worst director of all time, but made for one of them.

Speaker 2:

I've noticed the audience really loves or weird stuff. And would may or may not be both and weird stuff. And also has an octopus just for you. Dave does, but here's the problem? Uh, the punt, this is not the well with indie because it's just like, not, I guess like our audience is like very like shallow and like super mainstream and like the weird, like, it can be weird, but it can't be like, so Indian obscure that like 10 people watch the movie and then a hundred thousand people are like, what are you talking about? Like, um, I hate to say it, but the, the least liked of the field. Good. So far

Speaker 3:

Guys don't take a guess. Was it? Um, well there's only two.

Speaker 2:

You know what brother? You know what the mistake of the weather Reese was not casting Paul Short.

Speaker 3:

Oh man. Adam, how do you feel about this? Do you have anything to say?

Speaker 2:

I dunno, it's coming. I can see it on his screen so you can go

Speaker 3:

For that movie ad. And that's a good movie though. Um, I think ed wood is, uh, yeah, it was kind of a small movie at the time, but it's only gap. So that's not that small stream. It's grown. It's grown a lot. Yeah. Yeah. Tim Burton and Johnny, Deb, you can't really call that Indy. At that point,

Speaker 2:

I was trying to dry dry Dave into a debate about the greatest showman, but he didn't really bite. And so then I thought I would pick on Adam because Adam is good for a laugh. If I can get them engaged in a little movie battle, but his face just turned red and he just got real quiet.

Speaker 3:

I don't know. I've never seen him so quiet in my life. Yeah. It's been for the shoe to drop. No, the other shoe.

Speaker 2:

What are you watching again? Dave. Edward.

Speaker 4:

Okay, cool. Cool. The stage play that they're doing down at the

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 4:

And where did they go? I don't know. How did you don't do Dave muted his mic? I can see the little mute thing. Yeah. And he just keeps talking.

Speaker 2:

Keep

Speaker 4:

On talking to him. He's like Miami. Now this is great. You guys can't. If you're listening to the podcast, Dave's connected. Dave Dave's Mike went bye-bye and Dave is trying to talk. Uh, does someone want to do his voiceover? Sorry. Oh, well I guess he got mad that he didn't like his Edward pick, I guess. Oh no. Your mic is still broken microphone. His mic, literally audience. If you're, if you're listening to this, his mic has a little mute XC. She was struggling to join the studio on the first[inaudible] feeling he can hear us. Did you catch it earlier? When Dave said his favorite movie of the entire year was greatest showman? I couldn't believe it. He said he loves to see that movie on opening night. He stood in the rain. Oh wow. Are you serious and letters? He wrote to everyone in the cast. He's ordinary and loved again. I'm trying to explain this to anyone. Who's not watching. It's like he keeps coming on and then there's what's happening, right? Yeah. There's pretty much Dave. Somehow muted his mic and you get the little X symbol, but we could still see him. So we now we're. Yeah, but then he keeps leaving and coming back. His favorite movies. Greatest showman. Oh, there he is. Yeah. I can hear you now. Wow. That was a lie. You just told the audience what your favorite movie was. That's I heard that part correct teaching? Yes. No, that was good. You hate that musical? Let's let's let's uh, let's put you on the spot. What's what's one of your musicals that you like?

Speaker 2:

Um, Chicago, Greece, um, uh, wizard of Oz. I don't know you put me on the spot. So you know that's that's I can come up with at the moment. I do like musicals. Some of them sounded musical cats. Although I did see it. Didn't you watch the bud cut.

Speaker 4:

Yes.[inaudible]

Speaker 2:

All right. It feels like it's winding down. So I guess we'll kick it over to Nikki late. So you want to end the show, Nick?

Speaker 4:

Hey guys, everything got real. Thanks for joining. Whether you're live or whether your mic is muted, we're here for you and we'd love you. Stuff got real late.

Speaker 2:

It did get real because Dave told us what his favorite musical was. Yeah.

Speaker 4:

Can we mute games Mike? More often? That was funny. It was funny. You seem so stressed. It's like,

Speaker 2:

Hold on my mic. You don't have to watch your video version because you see him panicking.

Speaker 4:

Yeah. Oh, it's so much. I'm starting to see me having a stroke on camera. It was pretty funny.

Speaker 2:

No, but I forgot. I should mention it now. So I'm streaming with this thing called the amp crest, right? It's a little 10 80 P camera webcam. It's got sound. It's got a video and audio. I'm going to get this for the boys. Cause it's a pretty amazing camera. So all three of you guys are going to get it. If our audience wants this, you know, maybe we'll do a holiday contest. We'll get you your own camera. Um, from our buddies at amp crest, we're an ambitious vision tonight. There you go. I think you guys said on the commentary that we did last week, that I was looking pretty sharp and it's because

Speaker 4:

I can tell the difference that yeah, yours looks so better, much better than mine. He's like really good.

Speaker 2:

It's affordable. And it works as well, 300 buck ones, but it's only 50 bucks you can get on Amazon. It's like 40, 40 or 50 with shipping, whatever. Okay. Nick, you look like you're in a mist. Like there's a poly shores in the next room.

Speaker 4:

I know. Right? Probably it's in my garage and I have really bad lighting. I have that weird garage lighting, you know, it's the only room in the house I can get really quiet. And you know,

Speaker 2:

I was going to tell you, Nikki, like a sidelight, you need like a little sidelight on your desk there.

Speaker 4:

Well, I have like a, a flashlight, but then I'm like blind. But then I'm like blinded the whole time. Like this is way too bright. I'd be like, Ooh, that hurt. Let's see.

Speaker 2:

That's a little bit better, but it's not a lot of bounces. Like a lens flare. Oh my God.

Speaker 4:

I can just create lens flares. The whole show.

Speaker 2:

Oh, the stream is still going by the way. It's good.

Speaker 4:

It's good. So audience we're doing listers flares.

Speaker 2:

My favorite part was, uh, Dave being frustrated because he couldn't share his favorite musical with us.

Speaker 4:

He was very disappointed. I could tell

Speaker 2:

I'm really surprised people like that movie, but I am in the minority apparently. Um, I'm in industry now. Cause I'm just getting doubly offended, bringing down the house with your opinions on that movie. Do we have any other audience questions? Uh, yeah. Oh yeah, we do. Hold on. There's something on my notes that says we really love the greatest showman says symphony checks from my Dick decoder it, uh, I don't know, Columbus, Ohio. You just got to turn it into a month of movies that David hates or, you know, cause we were December that David hated. Oh my God, thanks Dave. We needed a December theme now I got one for movies that David doesn't like perfect.
