Um, but so far your Internet still works and your cable TV still work, so that's something to think about. Even though you don't have bread, you can at least be starving and be entertained while you're starving. It'll save me on that. But it's really funny is like Gabe kind of lead out these hits, and we started watching last week. We did a drama, The strain, and so we're like wine and everything else up. You know, we'll be talking about outbreak and contagion and, like, uh, you know, some other things that are kind of related. We're actually gonna get medieval. At one point, we'll be talking about the black plague or black death, whatever that movie is with the guy who played Boram here in Lord of the Rings, listening he's in all these things. He also played, You know, the feel fated Ned Stark on Game of Thrones. Sean Bean. Here we go. We'll cram it all that stuff, folks. But tonight we're talking about Outbreak. And what's funny about talking about it tonight is it just hit the top 10 on Netflix. Netflix complain it all week. And that wasn't like the top 10 trending films.

Yeah. I mean, you're right. He does play a science in that movie, and there's some suspense and action. And then, believe me, that's more like a science fiction, I guess. You know, they're saying that outbreak might be plausible. I mean, definitely a monkey different. You introduced a virus to humans, but it's fairly over the top and suffers that great like 19 nineties curse that all the nineties movies have. They're so exaggerated. And the stunts are so out of this world, like everything's just bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger, and you just go okay at some point, man, there's too much butter on this popcorn, you know? Yeah, it falls to a popcorn movie thing for me. They've David to the same couple years ago, where he's like movies like a Guilty pleasure. And some movies are not just guilty pleasure. There also a popcorn movie, which is, like, essentially you. I mean, in my mind, I interpret what they've said is like and Dave can tell you the second what he actually means my popcorn movie. But in my mind I think of it like, Okay, you paid for the price of popcorn and NASA. As good as the movie's gonna be like, it's worth the popcorn. I mean, is that wrong? Is that a good

interpreter so long? I mean, sometimes a popcorn movie for me just means just something that's entertaining but doesn't necessarily mean It's like a great movie. I mean, you know, But that I don't know. Sometimes they cross, you know, uh, to be in great movie and popcorn movie like Gladiator. I think it's kind of that.

I think it walks. I walk the line to this entertaining as hell, but it also has sure artistic merit. Uh, I I really I thought this was a genuinely good movie when I was young, when I was younger. I haven't I mean, it's not bad now, but it's kind of hit. The note has been melodramatic bit action centric. What is also trying to be serious Yes, I've

really, really exaggerated them. Like at one point, Like, you know, they're talking down a a giant bombing plane that's armed with, like, uh, almost immediately. It's like it's like one step. It's a hydrant hydrant bomb, I think, are some crab bomb. It's like one step down from a nuclear bomb. Some kind of bomb was attracted, bomb and like, first of all, I don't think a helicopter can get as high as those planes fly, right? Yeah, but it's not possible that the guys flying the plane would disobey a direct order and not drop a bomb. And it's not possible that the other guy would be able to steal the helicopter, and it just happens that the guy Okay, I guess I should back up in illustrate what school that's happening in this movie in the sixties. To Army doctors show up in a village that's played by something called Motaba Virus. They have no way to deal with it, so they take a sample of the virus and then they go scorched earth and drop a bomb on the village, kill everybody, wipe their hands clean of it, move on, replicating virus, store away an antibody or something or, um, the vaccine in case they encounter it again. Jump to modern day. Uh, there's an infected village, There's a monkey, the monkey gets on a ship and the guy is sharing food with them. For whatever reason, the guy who works on a boat thing is a good idea to share food with a monkey. Like I mean, I mean, I guess there's no common sense in the mid nineties and then, like the monkey gets sold to do that just sells monkeys to pet stores played by Patrick Dempsey. Then he said, people are dying very quickly, like within two days. They're like bleeding out of the rivals. They're dead. So the National Guard mobilizes those Army guys that were involved in the sixties get word that it might be the same thing. And then they call their favorite guy, who happens to be Dustin Hoffman and again, like they drop the most nineties type stories into this like, But you're rightly. When I was a kid, I thought this was a much better in my mind. This was a better movie, like I only this is my second go around with the movie, but I remember better than itwas and then, like, they immediately drop in a plot where oh, the main guy has, like a relationship problem with his ex wife. But she's still on his team. I'm like, Oh, man, forcing stakes right away. He wouldn't be forcing conflict that way. Learned, you know, back in the film school, Days of conflict, One of one like Okay, your main character, He's a guy that researchers pathology of viruses. But, you know, that's just not complex enough. So is to, you know, his top researcher has to be his ex wife, and they're about to get a divorce, and then they're gonna butt heads for an hour and 1/2. We gotta put that in the story. Make sure, you know, I feel like that's what our instructors would put that like. You're simply telling this story about a guy that's got a fight, a monkey virus, and then your circuit comes along and says, Well, I don't know about the relationships in here. I think you need to put a wife in there. There's gonna

So this woman gets his little magic crew together also includes Kevin Spacey and, um, And if anybody is like hating on Kevin Spacey for all the scandalous they're going on, you appreciate in this movie. Spoiler alert. Skip ahead. If you don't want to hear it about an hour into this movie, he gets infected. He's bleeding into his eyeballs, dies in a hospital bed. So if you want some, you're raging on. Kept the Kevin Spacey situation in real life. You'll love this movie for that part. You can take a picture of him bloody and destroyed anyway. Doesn't often gets a crack team together in Cuba. Gooding Jr is like the new rookie recruit. They hear the Moto things breaking out in another village again and again. The monkey escapes, you know, like I said, and he boards an agent boat. He's on his way to San Francisco. Whatever. And, uh, I'm just gonna hang out there in the redwood trees or whatever, and, uh, I don't think it at first. They know they're looking for a monkey and the Army guys, they're still trying to cover it up because now one of the general and the other one's like a kernel of this special ops team that investigates the viruses or whatever. It doesn't want to reveal its Maurin Freeman, right? He's a senior officer, doesn't want to reveal too. Just happened. What he knows so right, the virus spreads like wildfire. Like pretty much his fastest Coronas Freddy. In real life, this thing goes really fast. But this thing kills a lot harder than Corona kills this outbreak of disease. Um is killing left and right And it's pretty scary cause, like contact. And at one point I think it mutates, and then it becomes airborne, and then they're just totally fucked at the hospital in this little town again. They're considering, like, you know, blowing, blowing it up again. And you can't lose the hometown. Feel well, you know, David, you know what has the hometown feel? I think that I think that's like the main thing is like way put the shows together. We got day jobs, were working on creative projects, and I think, like for creative professionals, young professionals, you just can't think about putting together deals. And at some point his only concern is no longer finding the that, like isolating the host, getting the vaccine he's singlemindedly and, selfishly, he just wants to fix his wife was now, in fact, and again they set that steak up earlier in the movie because she's on his team of specialists, right? She makes a mistake. She gets infected. And suddenly the movie is about doesn't Hoffman trying to save his wife's character? And one of the most ridiculous things that I think now is an adult watching the movie is the pressure he puts on the little girl to tell him where the monkey is, like like she's gonna save everyone and gonna say he like he, like, hold her by the shoulders and says, You got to do this. You gotta tell me about the monkey and everything you could think of because I gotta save My wife was in a hospital bed. Do you put that kind of pressure on like a eight year old kid? You know that being

at this point like there's 1000 people sick like they shut down the whole town in the National Guard There, you know, like they're separating families because summer infected, some aren't. And again, doesn't. Hoffman. This is his action movie like there's a major stunt in the movie. You know, this character has a helicopter on top of a life raft that's covered with the tarp so he could get onto the boat where the monkey supposedly came from. That started this whole outbreak. And, you know, they have essentially this side of like, the helicopter, which is we know the side of the helicopters probably built in the studio. And he's in front of like, a yeah, probably a blue screen, because they weren't really green screening in the mid nineties, or even like it could have just been like, remember those big film composites? What do they call those? But they've blown up the image in the studio. I mean, like, you're back, you know, it could have been it could have been a backdrop that they put him against, and like so his character jumps and then, like, it's a stop man. So, like the biggest set up in the movie is, you know, jumping from the helicopter to the biggest set in the movies from the helicopter, too platform on the boat and like that's his stuntman. But I'm like So Hoffman gets the script right? And, folks, this is not like Hollywood fax or anything. We have some stuff from a CDC guy that watched the movie. We're gonna We're gonna go over this article that I like, But right now I just I just want to bring up like my thoughts on you know what might have been. I'm just imagining. This is like a fantasy scenario. Hoffman gets the script, and he's like, You know, one day I'll get to be an action star. You know, I'm not as tall is like golf longer. But you know, one day, like I'm only couple into shorter than Tom Cruise. He stands on an apple box. Maybe one day I'll get there, I'll get my top gun. I'll do something, gets the script. It's full of speeches. At one point, he's like, Oh my God, I'm talking down! The plane's about to drop the nuclear bomb on the town. I got another speech to a little girl. I got this other speech in the jungle. I got at least I got five speeches in the script. Oh, my God. I'm gonna jump on a boat. This is it. This is it. This is my fucking die hard. This is it. You and Hoffman signs onto the movie. You know, He's like, Who am I going up against? You gotta get me somebody Good. Give me something good. Are you gonna get me a subtle You're gonna give me the old seven. All right, Who else you got? You got Morgan Freeman. You wait. Hold on. Hold on. You got me going. Open this. It's really like part six or seven, but you know, it has its own parts, cause it's called resin world. But we all know it's dress apart. I was talking with the Hollywood movies later, but I was I wanted meanwhile, Okay, Outbreak was a huge blockbuster type movie. I don't know if he did that well, when it first came out like I reverted. One thing that said it didn't do well, but I always thought it didn't well, so I don't I don't know. But, um uh, yeah, this guy, the CDC person says It's pure Hollywood fiction and be specific. I'm talking about Brian Eamon, who's like an Ecologist who happens to work for the CDC, Um, Center for Disease Control. And he was talking originally toe wired dot com or Wired magazine. Um, yeah, yeah, you see people shaking hands. He's talking about Outbreak in the movie, he said. That is never an outbreak carrier. If there's some kind of greeting is double the elbow, you're saying the movie is total chaos. It's a mess. Pure Hollywood fiction. And then he talks about the virus origin scene, he says. You know, I don't know where begin. What can I talk about? The fact that there's a South American monkey that they caught in Africa. Question mark. He

said, Generally, the viruses that you've seen in these clips are basically Hollywood fiction and real life viruses. If they're out there, are hardly ever, if it all as fast acting as what you had seen in these clothes. And then he goes on to talk about the similarities between Corn of Eyes in Real Life and Outbreak is a film. But the freaky thing is this guy and another woman who worked with the CDC named Crazy McNamara was, Ah, veterinary pathologist. We're talking about contagion, right comparison and specifically on folks. We're gonna do contagion to what we're getting to it. Like I said, we have ah, little viral hits list. But look the best outbreak type movies, right? So they're saying about that movie that they're accurate about the statistic of, like touch being an issue like that, the average person touches their face to 3000 times a day that, um, in contagion. It would take a long time to take a vaccine because it has get approved by all the agencies, including the FDA. And it's a Link Lee testing process in that movie. I think it's kind of fast and and an outbreak. It happens in, like, three second takes a guy like five seconds

Movie like you stop a nuclear bomb by dropping somewhere else. You stop an entire playing with the helicopter, you take a general under court martial, which wouldn't happen today under the operation we have. Forget it. No, general. Probably gonna be in trouble for anything. You know, he immediately gets taken into custody by his, like, third in command. Which wouldn't happen. Probably more reframe. This character wouldn't like give up the cover off because he's involved in, like, well covered up the virus in the sixties. And I don't think you would give up his cushy position as a colonel. This sounds really negative, folks, but I just don't think it would happen. But, uh, it is true that the capacity for animals to carry viruses could infect humans, and they're obviously linking, you know, the real life corona virus to an animal market in Wuhan is kind of where we're at and contingent is a much war disturbing movie. Then I think outbreak is outbreak a Serie because of the violence of the virus. Like how bloody and terrifying. It's kind of

I saw a video online where people we're literally bashing each other in for the road for the paper, right? So it doesn't take much for Americans to, like, really turn on each other. It really doesn't. And we're not. Even this is not even like the most serious problem that Americans face and you know, But then Mother Nature screws with us to like I'm reading that leg. You know, nature has to balance itself in like every 100 years. It's like it's got a tip the population, you know? So who knows? Maybe just thinning of the herd. It's part of a whole

Just aren't there. So if you're abroad, come home essentially so kind of interesting. But if you're afraid to go to the story because you're going to catch it, if you're afraid to go to a restaurant, you're gonna catch it.
